Sometimes, a disposal may jam too when tough objects fall in it.  When this happens, you should try to locate the obstruction with your eyes (remember to use a flashlight, of course), and then use some handy pincers or tongs to extract the object.  If this does not work, there is the recourse of the Allen wrench.  Almost all disposals have a hole into which this wrench shall fit, and the hole is found at the bottom of the device.  Insert the wrench here and use it to turn the disposal one way and another until the clog comes free.

5. Again for gas water heaters, constantly check that the vent is working properly.  Also known as the flue, this part of the installation is responsible for proper air ventilation.  To check if it is working as it should, you may light a match or candle next to the device or near the vent.  If the vent is working as it should, the smoke should travel up the vent.

6. Check your water heater for rust at least once each year.  You can do this using the same procedure outlined in tip number 2, checking the outflow from the tank for a rusty colour or rust particles.

7. Check your anode rod every now and then.  Also called a sacrificial rod, this eventually wears out and needs to be replaced due to the corrosion that eats away at it.  You may inspect this by simply draining out some water from the tank until you can unscrew the sacrificial rod from its position and take it out.

Polyisocyanurate also known as polysio, is usually observed in all kinds of commercial and more recently with residential building projects. It has an R value of 7.0 to 8.0 inch of thickness. It also has a foil faced. The foil makes it excellent for insulation boards when radiant heat is involved. It is also the most expensive board, amongst the three.

Although foam boards are much more expensive compared to other insulation materials, such as cellulose or fiberglass, it is mostly used in places where space limitations are encountered. Another reason for preference is, it is three times thicker than most of the insulating materials and because it has high R values. Also with materials such as polystyrene sheets, give a more peaceful and subdued home since, it prevents the entry of unnecessary noise. Cellulose insulation is usually sold in bags. To put it, the insulation is poured from the bag and into a hopper, which is a machine that breaks the insulation into smaller pieces and are blown through a hose pipe filling up the cavity. There are two methods of installing this insulation:

1)Dry blown cellulose- This method requires a netting to be attached to the exposed surface that catches the cellulose and holds it in place. This can be done by an amateur as it just requires a basic hopper

2)Wet cell spray cellulose- It is mixed with a bonding agent and is sprayed into a cavity where it can stick to the wall without the netting, like dry blown cellulose. The wet cell is oversprayed and the excess can be removed by shaving off.

There are some long term cost savings in using cellulose insulation. It helps to retain the heat better or keep it out depending on the temperature outside. Although it is primarily a DIY task, however at times, one may need a professional.
