When a child is born, it has a natural instinct to breathe through the nose. The baby is very sensitive to a lot of things, and it is very easy for it to get nasal congestion. The resulting vacuum in the bulb will draw the mucus out. Repeat this a few times with a clean baby aspirator till you feel the mucus is out and the baby is breathing easily.

When you are doing this, ensure that the bulb’s nose does not touch the baby’s skin. Also make sure you do not do it more than a few times a day. Look closely at the baby’s nose and look out for skin irritation. If you see even the smallest indication, stop the process and ask for professional help.
